2022 'Portsea Vineyard' Pinot Noir

Our New Release 2022 Estate Pinot Noir

Gold Medal Winner and Runner up for Best Pinot Noir at the 2023 Mornington Wine Show.

Coming from the home Portsea block, and made up of 3 blocks, all planted in the year 2000. The biggest and best is the MV6 block (2.8 acres), along with the mixed pinot noir block (1.4 acres, planted equally to 115, D4V2 and G5V15) and the smaller Cattle Yard block (D4V6, 0.2 acres). The vineyards are mostly on sand with nodes of limestone throughout the soil and a limestone bedrock. The MV6 block’s soil is particularly impoverished, making the most dense, powerful wines and yielding at an extremely low long term average of 900KG per acre. 20% new oak.

Vibrant colour, the nose leaps out of the glass with earthy, mulchy characters, fresh red fruits and maraschino cherry. With lifted acidity, on the palate there are plummy characters along with fresh goji berry, crunchy red fruit and classy, savoury oak in the background. The tannins are long and there is a hint of our trademark Portsea graphite and ozone character. It will cellar well for 10 years.
