Made only in exceptional years, the fruit for the Birthday Hill pinot noir is sourced from the best section of the estate’s MV6 block in Portsea. North facing and extremely low yielding, the soil quality here is the most fertile (and well protected) of the block, allowing for wonderful fruit quality and concentration. This wine was made with 33% whole bunch fermentation and no new oak.

Incredibly dark and concentrated in colour, the nose of the 2023 Birthday Hill is remarkably complex, with classic Portsea graphite, blue fruits and lifted whole bunch character. The palate is laden with cherry, spice and fresh berries, featuring fine tannins from whole bunch fermentation. The length is fantastic with wonderful tension and a long, elegant finish. The 2023 Birthday Hill is drinking well young but should continue to evolve gracefully over 15 years.
